3 Simple Yoga Poses to Relieve Stress at Work
s a new or expectant working mama, it is important to add some self-care into your day.
Sitting for extended periods of time without moving your body can lead to back pain and neck strain.
It might be difficult to fit in a full yoga class most days, but I am betting that you can definitely find time to do some yoga at your desk.
Yoga is an especially great option for working mamas because it not only helps to relieve pain, but is also shown to reduce stress.
Whether you are just returning to work or are checking off the to-do list as you get ready for maternity leave, these three yoga poses are ideal for stretching your back and neck and for relieving stress.
Breathing is a key ingredient when it comes to relieving stress. So remember, as you hold each of these poses, take several deep breaths.
1. Seated Crescent Moon Pose
This pose is great for relieving neck and shoulder discomfort.
Lift your arms overhead and clasp your hands together. Lean to the right, taking 2 to 3 deep breaths. Repeat on the left side for another 2 to 3 deep breaths.
2. Open Chest Stretch
This pose is great for relieving back pain and will give you a boost of energy.
Sit at the edge of your chair and straighten your back. Lift your arms away from your back and interlace your fingers behind your back. (If that doesn’t feel comfortable, you could hold onto the chair instead.) You should feel your chest expanding open. Keep your head, neck, and shoulders relaxed. Hold the pose for a few breaths.
3. Neck Rolls
Neck rolls are simple, but they’re one of the best poses for stress relief and a great way to combat neck pain.
Start by dropping your ear toward your shoulder. Next, roll your head forward so your chin tucks into your chest. Continue to roll your head around until your ear is against the other shoulder. Finally, bring your head back to center. Repeat in the opposite direction.
Consider setting a reminder at work to do these stretches every couple of hours throughout your day.
Working mamas have a lot to juggle. It’s important to take some time for yourself during the day. These three poses are a simple yet effective way to make your days a little a little more stress free.
Be well, Mama.
